I started mine from a cutting. I hopefully should get figs this year but nothing like what yours shows. Next year though it should be awesome.

Thought I would update you on those LSU Gold that I posted. Don't feel bad about yours not producing much in it's second year. Mine were 20 grams when ripe and they didn't taste very good. I am also looking forward to next year for that tree. Maybe LSU Gold is one that doesn't do very well until it's 3rd year. Atleast that seems the case for our two trees.

I haven't grown any huge figs but I think it's an interesting topic for discussion. From what I've been reading, it seems that really large figs don't usually have as good of flavor as smaller figs, but I did read about a guy who grew a noncaprified 205 gram YLN on a tissue culture fig tree in a 10 gallon bucket in NYC, and he said it was very delicious. It got me wondering if my LSU Gold or DrGowaty could get me into the 100 gram club. Does anyone here grow big figs like that? They might be good for making jam or something. I am interested in any suggestions of varieties that will produce 100+ gram figs. Can you help me make a list of fig varieties that produce 100 gram figs? Here is a start of some that I think might make the list:

i have G.R. ,very prolific grower and productive fruiting from aug 15 - into oct., ((Z8b)), cold hardy to mid teens f* (no protection)for 2 to 3 nites at a time.. and prefers 8+ hrs sun for flav. & we get to 100*f a few times also. (1st yr was in 75g range and tasty), this yr a few hit over 101g, most in 85-95g & had some heavy rains with no spliting...it does have a small eye. mother came from OGW...imo very under rated, but cooler climates may not have the "mild honey"almost citrusy flavor ie. 7a and under but still good. everyone thats tried them likes alot!!! btw, OGW changed the name Golden Riverside to (#278-128) for some conflict !!!?

I don't have much of a critter issue around here. Biggest pests are ants and the pill bugs that like to eat the skin on some figs for whatever reason.

Where's the challenge in that? Maybe I could send you a load of raccoons to make it interesting?

One of my really good, 100+ grams figs is “White Greek”. It is large, has a tight eye, and a very good berry flavor (even without caprification).

I just harvested my first “Orphan” figs earlier today. I don’t have my scale with me, but they look to be bigger than 100 grams. Orphan seems to be similar to YLN, Golden Riverside, or Robert’s Golden Rainbow. It just seems to be a much more vigorous grower. The only downside apppears to be a moderately open eye. I put organza bags over ripening figs and did not see any spoiling, despite rains from the coming Hurricane Erin. Attached, is a picture of two Orphan figs picked after a day of rain. On one fig, is a US quarter. On the other is a US dime, just to give a reference for size of these figs.

Well here it is. My 4th leaf TC Yellow Long Neck finally fruited. This is the first fig variety I ever purchased and now the first fig, I have ever grown, to breach the 100g threshold. This thing was large, sweet, sticky, and super pleasing to the taste buds. I honestly think it could have hung on a few more days, but it was starting to crack and I wasn't going to risk it. A very nice afternoon snack I might add. Several more sizeable figs left on the tree. All I can say it Wowzers! I went full BRUTE on this one. Pic #5 is most accurate for true coloring.

I haven’t grown it and it will probably be a huge splitter for me but just ordered some Maroc 23 cuttings. Supposedly they get huge too.
