100 Gram Club

I haven't grown any huge figs but I think it's an interesting topic for discussion. From what I've been reading, it seems that really large figs don't usually have as good of flavor as smaller figs, but I did read about a guy who grew a noncaprified 205 gram YLN on a tissue culture fig tree in a 10 gallon bucket in NYC, and he said it was very delicious. It got me wondering if my LSU Gold or DrGowaty could get me into the 100 gram club. Does anyone here grow big figs like that? They might be good for making jam or something. I am interested in any suggestions of varieties that will produce 100+ gram figs. Can you help me make a list of fig varieties that produce 100 gram figs? Here is a start of some that I think might make the list:

Golden Riverside
Armenian
Yellow Long Neck
Brooklyn White
I-258
LSU Gold
Vern's Brown Turkey
Nixon Peace
Desert King
Stella
Dalmatie
Masui
Fiorone Di Ruvo
Longue d'Aout/LdA

(I am editing the list to add more varieties)

I have gold and gowaty and they were both around 75g for me last year. I had >100g for Desert King (old tree) and Vern's Brown Turkey (old tree).

Wow, thanks for sharing @rayray! anyone has experience with this fig? Production, taste, etc. It seems I have a trip planned to this nursery to look at this tree 🌴

@Figgerlickinggood didnt you once have a thread on a lesser platform called Jurassic figs? I remember something about gigantinormous figs of every description. Some Breba the size of pears.

@t_corey89 I am somewhat obsessed with large figs. My yellow long neck, Stella, and Dalmatie, are starting their second leaf, and grow some large size figs. I also have two Bellaclare Sports, and a Zrequa who are also on their second leaf, but all these trees were heavily pruned to provide cuttings for the membership. They're not going to produce gigantosaurus figs for us this year.

Don’t believe so. If I did it must have been long time ago because I don’t remember anything like that.

My husband and I also like the large figs. That’s why Stella was one of the cuttings you sent me and she is sprouting leaves faster than the other cuttings.

This fig comes in different names. Not sure the name in China. It is Masui in Japan. Big Red in Southeast Asia. Its smaller cousin is BoJi Hong in China. I think this variety or strain is much larger. It is a hybrid type. Related to California Brown Turkey.

@Red_Sun Those figs are huge do you have any cuttings of them? Do you know how they taste?

@Figgerlickinggood
the Stella was sent to us originally from @MattK who is always so generous. The variety is incredibly vigorous, and the figs are very large. If we get curious we can always ask him the origin. He keeps careful records.
I can easily get 85g figs. It does fruit the same year after winter injury. I still try to find ways to protect in-ground trees. It is not very winter hardy. But the fig looks just beautiful. Good taste too though not the top taste. I think it is the same Brown Turkey taste.

@Red_Sun we have some English brown turkey cuttings. They are supposed to have large fruit, and have a mild flavor of peaches? Do you have any interest in those cutting? They're definitely a different variety than the American brown turkey version.
