Who Else Grows Pawpaw Trees?

Here is my hill leading down to the pond, I read pawpaws love to grow near creeks and rivers...besides we were doing nothing with this hill, it's steeper than it looks in the photo, and needs mowed. lol

I have 2 wabash, 1 potomac, & 1 Guava growing there.
Also on the hill not pictured are 2 asian pear and 1 Montmorency cherry.

That's a beautiful hill! So serene... and a really nice collection of trees.

I am really curious about Wabash variety - i would love to hear more and see pictures when you get the fruit. And I have always wanted to grow a guavas and fejoa... But PA is way too cold for those (and I cannot add another tree to my already too long list of schlepping figs!)

Wabash is one of the largest pawpaw varieties, sort of a caramel like flaovr, banana custard, very sweet.
Yellowish to maybe a little orangy in pulp color.

As for the Guava...not the real fruit but the pawpaw variety. :)

The Guava pawpaw was really sweet with a tropical type of flavor, I haven't had a Guava in so long I really can't place it in flavor, but the Guava pawpaw is very good and sweet.

I planted a Potomac and Susquehanna pawpaw behind my mother’s house and they are growing great. I need to get updated pics. I went to the field today and the pawpaw patch and my grafts have taken I put in the patch. Tropical Treat, Shenandoah and an unknown wild pawpaw. Many grafts of each.

I purchased Wabash and KSU Chappell and couple seasons back as grafted 1-2ft trees. They are both currently in containers and about 6ft tall.
I have scion of 275-48 in the fridge, waiting for a good day to graft to a seedling root stock I've been growing out. In the end I'll have 1 variety each from the big names in the game:

Neal Peterson (Wabash)
Kentucky St. University (Chappell)
Jerry Lehman (275-48)20260503_192402(1).jpg

Well, not so much with persimmons this year. Of all of those looks like only 3 are taking. And I grafted a bunch of persimmons!
When did you graft persimmons? The few I did about a month ago are looking very promising. I still have some newer roostock I'm waiting to leaf out to graft. This cooler weather has been perfect for timing.

Your Pawpaws are looking good.

I was asking because they say paw paw has. Deep tap root so growing in containers is not recommended after two years.

Do your trees bear fruit? Did you drilll holes at bottom for drainage? Would you say those are going to stay in the pot for a while longer or do you have plans for them to be in the ground?

My grafted trees arrived to me with the taproot partially missing. The containers were drilled at the bottom by me to allow for some drainage, but not so big that the container dries out quickly. Pawpaws like wet feet..... somewhat.

Plan is to move them both to 30 Gal livestock mineral tubs this season and continue growing in container for a couple more seasons.

We are currently hoping to move within the next couple years, so I'm planning to put them in ground at that point. They have not fruited yet, but I'm not expecting fruit for at least another season or 2
