šŸ“ Mara de Bois Strawberries šŸ“

I had a killer strawberry bed going for 3 years, it finally petered out.
Just as well because I needed to move it.
But I do want to get one set up again, the first goodies to eat every year!

Well theyre not sending new ones because they said the mold is harmless. I guess we'll see....

Well, some light mold can be harmless, but not when it has gotten to the point where the roots have black on them or soft spots.

Isn’t this a black area?

And it’s hard to tell from pic, but isn’t it up in the crown, too? The roots are one thing, and they might try to say it doesn’t matter, but it **does** matter in the crown.

And if they still won’t budge, I would do a 5 minute 10% bleach bath, then let TOTALLY air dry, before planting.

Of course it will probably survive, since asparagus crowns are ridiculously tough, but they should credit you for some of those which are not healthy crowns.

Sorry, I’m mad on your behalf!

I bought Mara des Bois from Nourse, but I see they are out of stock right now. Think about Charlotte as an alternative, it is an offspring of Mara des Bois. Here’s a comparison. .
I just got my Charlotte bare roots and planted them yesterday ! I contemplated between Mara and Charlotte, but found a few reviews saying they kind of taste like artificial grapes? Are sweet, but not a true strawberry flavor šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø. Have you tried a Mara or is this your first time planting them? I'm so excited for my Charlottes since its supposed to be sweet like the Maras, but larger.

I got asparagus from hand picked nursery. Theyre arriving today. Ill let you know. Expanding my patch from 20 to 50.

I got seascape and Charlotte strawberries. I really want the Afghan banana ones from ogw....

I dont reallt like strawberries to be honest but theyre nice ground cover.
Where did you get the Charlottes from? I could only find them from Gurneys, but wanted to order from somewhere else if I could. Just had a feeling they wouldn't be the best quality which ended up being true. Although none had mold-sorry about your asparagus. Hopefully they will be fine. They should at least offer some sort of compensation. 😔 I was going to order strawberries from them since Millennial Gardener recommended them, but I am going to stick with my local nursery Isons.

Aparently the crown is what matters not the roots really.

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying - it’s hard to tell from the pic, but is it up in the crown on a couple of those?
