New giveaway - can we give out 50 Angelitos.....using single node propagation?!?

I did hundreds of single nodes just a few seasons back, I found that laying them horizontal in 2-3” chunks but completely buried was the very best. This allowed roots to come out on the entire cutting and then point the node upward just slightly under the surface so it stayed dry and well oxygenated. I threw away hundreds of extra trees end of season because I couldn’t give them away I had so many.

I found completely burying them works best also with the bud facing up. I don't have hundreds going, but I have about 6 or so going for fun that I’m probably going to end up pitching as well.

Heck yeah. I did single mows with root riots a few years ago. When I cut the cubes hot dog bun style I would place the cuttings sideways so the node would be facing up towards the cut side so when it came time to uppot I would just drop the cube sideways and let that little bud grow upwards.
Thats a great idea

I was just thinking that the other day as I was looking at them i said to myself, I bet if I bury both sides of the node ill get roots on either side, and then just aim the node up.

@FiggyEd @GoodFriendMike Quick update on the Angelito #SingleNodeChallenge cuttings. I have them in clear pots so I can see roots and they were stuck on 1/30. Today being 2/15. we are just over two weeks. Each of these were between 200 and 220 grams on the 30th and I am watering back to weight on Fridays and Tuesdays. Everything is on heat mats with temp set to 78 degrees. So, in the clear pots I can see only one root but that is a great sign. I think! Lol! Over half of these are now showing little tiny buds. My hope is they have spent the last two weeks getting roots going they just haven’t reached the sides of the pots yet. The sand……well I see no roots. The buds seem to be swelling and one is even opening but there are no roots showing anywhere. 😳 I am regularly checking the sand for moisture and spritz these daily. My last sand props did the best with neglect. Lol!! Maybe I should stop helicoptering over here and let them do their thing?

Just wanted to give a 2 week update. Not sure what @JaysfigsTx or @goodnessatlanta have going. I know Jeremy put a bunch in sand and Root Riots. Hopefully we get an update soon! Would love for all 3 of us to give away 20+!!!
No root yet I started mine on the 3rd of February. They have been in the heat bin for two weeks. I just transfered them to light.

Plant propagation is science. Some have said "the science is settled" That is what some people believed when we thought the Earth was flat. We all could take those single nodes and start different ways and in thousands of different media. You never know when you could find something better than before.

Ok I put 5 of mine that had tiny buds under lights and am seeing top growth and I found roots in 2 of those 5. I have them in clear pots but sitting inside cells so the roots are shielded from light. What I am trying to see is if being under lights slows or speeds up roots growth while it excels top growth. So far inconclusive. Lol!!!

Another hotly debated topic. When and how to introduce light.

And how do you introduce light if you don't have a grow tent?

When I first started I just used some cheap Barrina LEDs ziptied to a cheap wire rack from Target. Stuck it in a corner and wrapped an old sheet around the rack. Worked great, just small. Still use it for overflow. I meant the “how” as in people debate things like duration, intensity, etc.

I just started and am using that exact setup. 😆

And you will do great. I recommend using something under the trays or something to get your figs closer to the light and then you can pull it out as they grow taller. It will help make sure they don’t get too leggy. Mine has two shelves, a short and a tall. I start off at the short then move them down to the tall as they grow.

I have 2 units with 5 and 6 shelves. I use them for seed starting too so I have some short and some tall spaces. Its working well so far although I am running out of room with all of the cuttings I have.
