Cull 2026

I’m working on that as well. I think I measured the area and I have room for about 60 inground figs in the rear of my garden. I’m up for suggestions for in ground options but I’ll post my thoughts once I get closer to that number.
You have a big garden! How dense are we talking here?

I only have very limited experience. But for Mt. Etna, Michael Grace Mystery really impressed me for early, large, and good tasting figs that never split or spoil for me in rain. My white Madeira #1 even had Pac-Man splitting at the same time. So I’ll put MGM in ground once I get a backup. Still evaluate the other figs. I would love to see your in ground list.

I’ve heard good things about that variety

Are you going to protect them or just let them die back?
I think I have around 15 in ground right now and I only protected two this winter ( paratjal, and smith ). The other trees made it through that first stretch of subzero temps actually really well but the most recent weekend definitely knocked a bunch of them to the ground.

You may want to check the selling policy at the PA Figfest, I thought I saw this past Fall that they were limiting vendor spaces. I haven't been there yet, just thought it could help with your planning.

Hi,
I was thinking about the vendor spot thing at this upcoming PA Figfest…

So I reached out to the co-host, Donna Howard Wethy, who is the Development Coordinator at the Althouse Arboretum, which is where the Figfest is held.

I suggested that we should really have a swap/trade booth, for participants, since trading/sharing is a fundamental fig community activity, and I think it helps make it even more fun for everyone, especially non-vendors.

Donna agrees and is very supportive and said “We can have a swap/trade booth for sure!”

😁

Definitely a good idea.
