I think we need to start a separate thread for soil amendments

I used oyster shell from TS in my mix last Spring. Even if it didn't add much calcium it would help with drainage. About the same size as perlite.

How did you crush the shells.

Crushed some in an old Ninja blender.

One other thing I added was diatomaceous earth for silica. Advice from Fig Boss.

This thread has been eyeopening for me. I have some TS oyster shell soaking in vinegar now and will be mixing it and diatomaceous earth into my mix going forward. Thankfully I had both already for my chickens.

capri-q seems to have been drooping after being uppoted on saturday. I watered last night but the soil feels dry to me. I'm hesistant to water againbefore checking to see if you agree it looks like under watering not over watering or something else. Not sure why the square is there lol

dont see any signs of insect damage. I am using jacks 20-20-20 is that not sufficient calcium?

Jacks 20-20-20 has no calcium. They can’t mix it in there because it’ll react poorly with the other ingredients. You need to add it separately. It’s actually missing a few micros.

Something like cal-mag works well but you have much cheaper options as well

Worth noting to anyone reading this. Most of the synthetic, soluble ferts leave out calcium
