Removing buds from rooted cuttings

I have a Figo Preto cutting that is doing quite well at the moment, but would like to eventually train it to a single stem shape. In everyone’s experience, what is the best time to pinch/rub off the unwanted side budding? Will doing it too early carry a risk of inadvertently killing the cutting?

There are some who do it early, but to me, it is taking an unnecessary risk. I would wait until it is more established and do it after up potting. It will give you a better idea of how it is growing as well.

Right now, it needs the photosynthesis to get healthy and strong.
 
I would let it go a while longer. One of those shoots may die and then there is a backup.

I've also learned some cuttings really don't like to be pruned. I've killed 2 Smith cuttings that were doing great and then I removed the extra shoots and within 2 days, dead. Obviously it could have also been something else but the pruning was the new variable in both.

So I would leave it alone for now.

I would let it grow however it pleases the first year.
