3weeks - 2 months. The temp varies drastically as my house isn’t very well insulated and is at the mercy of the weather. How long have these been rooting and at what temp?
Yea even consistently like 72+ is better than inconsistent heat.So I bought a super cheap heat mat that doesn’t produce much heat(lightly warm to the touch) didn’t know if it’d help but couldn’t hurt. Several cuttings have just started popping roots since being on it. Guess it was a good investment.
Just keep in mind BM is considered a harder to root and grow variety. Seems to be a very slow grower in many cases. The black madiera has been stuck the longest out of all of them though. It’s right at 2 months.
You need BT cuttings to practice with.Sounds like you’re doing a lot better than me this year. My first batch of cuttings I went 0/20![]()
Seriously, I will extend this offer again- just send me a DM and I will help you.Sounds like you’re doing a lot better than me this year. My first batch of cuttings I went 0/20![]()
I appreciate the offer. I’ve modified my methods and currently have 20 more cuttings going right now. Fingers crossed. But I’ll accept your offer on my next batch. I’m thinking about fig popping them.Seriously, I will extend this offer again- just send me a DM and I will help you.
I help a lot of people on fig pops, and I would be happy to help you too. As a new Fig grower, you need to hit a couple out of the park and get your confidence up!
Yay! We will get them to work really well.I appreciate the offer. I’ve modified my methods and currently have 20 more cuttings going right now. Fingers crossed. But I’ll accept your offer on my next batch. I’m thinking about fig popping them.
I just stuck them in 4x9 tree pots in a way too wet and heavy rooting medium. They all rottedYay! We will get them to work really well.
So the failed batches were done using what method?
Yea it took its sweet time and the 2node cutting of it put out some roots then just died on me. Not sure what happened as no rot, maybe it got too dry. I’ll keep babying. Scared bc my dog got nosey and shoved the cutting pretty good, but we’ll see and I have another if he fubared it.Just keep in mind BM is considered a harder to root and grow variety. Some inconsistency in temperatures is okay. Think about growing outside— warm days, cool nights. But it does need a period of warmth for a certain amount of hours to get going, usually anything over 70° is good. I think it’s good the heat mat you got doesn’t put out too much heat.
First cuttings are like marriage and pancakes the first ones don’t count.Sounds like you’re doing a lot better than me this year. My first batch of cuttings I went 0/20![]()
