This is the same or very similar to Palermo Red. I think it’s rather cold tolerant but -15F is not regular cold. This is just my opinion but I don’t think any fig can handle that temperature in-ground without some kind of microclimate helps. The only way that you can figure it out is to try it

also survive does this mean the roots lived?> or does it mean it didnt have die back. i could see roots living if its just one night maybe...

Yeah, -15 is rough even for the roots. If it’s really well mulched I think it can handle minus temperature but not sure about minus teens
 
Trees that survived extreme temperature typically were old with thick bark, with extended root system and in some kind of microclimates, especially the ones without any active protection.

Growing a cutting from these trees won't offer the same cold tolerance, at least in the first few years.

It is a good talking point on how well a tree can survive but not the same as it can be reproduced in our backyard right now.

@TorontoJoe , do you have Red Sicilian? Thought I saw it in some old posts. If you do or did, wondering how it did in your climate? How do the fruits taste?

I might trial in my zone with my style of winter protection and see how it does if I have space next year.

I have “a” red Sicilian. I’m not sure if it’s the same strain as the main one out there. The one I have is a very good fig, but it’s kind of late and not super productive
