I was reading @DallasFigShop 's post and watching the video about Comfrey and it reminded me of KUDZU!

Not that comfrey is a super invasive plant like Kudzu, but for the reason it is here in America.
If you haven't read the history on it, it's pretty interesting.

Never really paid attention until I moved to the south.
I believe if we ceased to exist, Kudzu would indeed take over the world and cover EVERYTHING!

But the story in a nut shell....it was brought here because of ornamental reasons, but found out it brought fields with poor soil back to life.
Farmers started using it and eventually left it unchecked.

Give it a read sometime.

I always thought it was brought by government to help with slopes and runoff areas. I watched a video yesterday about herbicides and the guy was saying the same thing if Atlanta was unpopulated for a year kudzu would overtake everything….lol

I know they did use it for that too....but yeah...out by me it covers vast areas. crazy stuff.

I think it was this record holding tomato grower (Charles Wilber) that used kudzu for compost and kept large baskets/bundles under his house.
Read about him years ago, just quickly searched and found this.

It was used by farmers to bring lots of nitrogen to their soil, which worked like a charm.
I don't doubt it is good for adding to your compost.
Actually I don't have any near me, but right outside town there is tons.
Wonder what they would say if I borrowed some. lol
