I Can't Believe it

I can't believe what I just saw...

I have been wanting to take my daughter to the local pond to catch her first fish, so I got up in the middle of the night to go get the landing net from the side of the house to fix a hole it has.

I flip on the light, open the side door...
Low and behold, about 6 feet away, the biggest male trash panda I have ever seen in my life is staring me right in my face at eye level. He was walking away with his face turned towards me and very obviously male. We both froze there for a good 30 seconds sizing each other up.

All this time, I thought I had a rat sneeking around my fig trees 😂

Does anyone care to rehome this dude? @TorontoJoe ?

We've dealt with racoons, opposums and skunks in our chickens. Squirels are the nemesis for our fruit. Only two ways to take care of all of them. PewPew or trap and relocated several miles away.
Aw man! Such a wide range of garden destroyers. Sorry for your headaches.

I agree with you. I have family that struggle badly with wildlife. Squierrels even killed young trees by scraping all the bark off. They girdle their trees.
I once heard someone say that is a sign your garden has a lead defficiency 😉

Keeping in mind that someone was keeping this as a pet illegally…. The Toronto Zoo…. Not that far from me, was keeping this one weighing in at over 30kg. About 66lbs.

In the east end a 20-25kg (45-55lb) raccoon is not exceedingly rare… sadly
Oh yeah dont Toronto raccoons literally have diabetes from overfeeding lol. Probably too many figs...

Many Toronto raccoons have been found to be obese and have high blood sugar levels and indeed, there have some found to have type 2 diabetes. This is mostly because they're very smart and get into peoples trash... but around here, their diet is quite rich in rigs.

Interestingly, they only go for sweet around here. figs, berries etc. They completely ignore the tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers etc. I suppose they can afford to be choosy 🤨

I have to say in the first picture that raccoon is so obese I swear it looks AI generated. It’s amazing how big an animal can get.

Given all the garbage out there I can totally understand why anyone might think that. This was in 2023 when AI wasn't that advanced..... It's wise to question everything you see these days. The technology is getting so advanced.

Update:

Another event I can't believe.

I ended up taking my daughter fishing. We had some laughs, ate some snacks, but no fish. I did, however, lose my wallet for the first time in my entire life 😂💀

Oh well. I'll just consider it as an expensive father and daughter trip 😅

Happy Christmas Eve everyone. Hope you are spending it with those you love.

Hate you lost your wallet. Good times and good (mostly) memories. Thats what it’s all about. I kayak fish and have kayaks for my family. I take everyone at least once a year and it absolutely works me to death doing all the work. Loading and unloading them from the truck multiple times. Then untangling and helping them fish or towing them all over the lake. It’s memorable that’s for sure. Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁

That sounds like a lot of work, but great memories. Thanks for the pick me up 😄

Merry Christmas!

Sounds you might need to leave out some 'Coon-zempic" for them.

Well... I feel real silly right about now. After searching the whole house, and even backtracking my steps at the lake, I found my wallet lodged in my mom's recliner. It feels like she is looking out for me even now that she has passed on. This would have cracked her up 😅
