What’s the smallest container you root in?

What’s the smallest container you’ve rooted in?? I’ve been debating these cell containers that are 2.7” across for awhile now. I realize they would need uppotted sooner which isn’t a concern, mostly wondering if I could develop a decent root system, then pop the trees out and plug them into a tree pot or larger. Thoughts anyone?

Pretty sure he uses tree pots. Troy Priddy I think did some experiments with those before. I think most don’t like them and prefer regular tree pots so roots don’t get damaged.

I typically use 3x8 Anderson band pots for rooting trees but these are new and shiny and it’s winter

I've seen people root in these before. I guess if you have alot of cuttings and not as much space they would be good. And you'll use less media

I was just taking to a commercial grower about those cones last week. They use the little cones for plants that have a longer taproot, but found the little cones pots don’t work as well for figs because of the diameter of the cutting takes up all the space.

The little cones were meant more for a tree seed/cone, or a seedling with a very thin stem. It wasn’t meant for the diameter of the typical fig cuttings.

Your right, but i got a couple that i got a long time ago, I thing the fig hunter sent them to me with rooted cuttings. Im sure there are some people that do use them but the tree pots are more practical for figs

3X11 craft bags are what I root in now and days. But if I was to go commercial 4X9 pots with the slotted bottom would be my go to.

Not my normal rooting vessel, but I do believe people have been duped into thinking a 3x9 treepot and a cutting the size of a baseball bat is the only thing that will root with good success.
My go-to rooting vessel is about 15-20% the volume of a 3x9 treepot and I'm in the high 90%rooting the scraps other people don't want. And that's using the insufferable Pro Mix BX with extra perlite.

I always try to keep the diameter narrow..... mostly to save space. 5cm (2-inch) would be good but hard to find. I mostly find 3x11 bags from the US.
