Today's Haul

I started digging up my sweet potatoes today. I am going to look for some more tomorrow. I might not find any tomorrow because the sweet potato vines that I haven't dug up yet were labeled "Ornamental" when I bought it. I don't know if it is a type that produces tubers. The vines that produced the tubers that I dug up today were from the Walmart garden center. Some of them may have been from the grocery produce side of the store, I don't remember. There is a pic below of the "ornamental" vines that I will dig up tomorrow, and also a pic of today's harvest.

Was an 8" long vine when I planted in spring.

I keep putting off harvesting my ube 'til I'm ready to move, but I'm starting to think it might be necessary to do so sooner, since the date keeps getting pushed back and pushed back. -_- I'll post a harvest once I do, if it's anything worth posting! It's my first year growing it, and in just a 10lb grow bag.

A very small ube haul, but they'll make for lovely slips for next spring. When fingers crossed I'll be able to grow them in ground instead of in one 10 gallon grow bag!

I'm going to save a few of mine for next spring too. I originally paid $3.46 to start these last spring but I can use some of these to start the growing next spring, so that original $3.46 will pay for every year from here on out if I save a few every year.

Next time just use a sweet potato from the grocery store. You'll save some $. Bought a good bit this week, local store had them for 33 cents per pound.
