My grafted Col de Dame Gris swelled up and turned color a few days ago. Large beauty!

Today I tried to test for ripeness, and it was so soft that the skin broke, revealing this gorgeous, translucent interior. I couldn't wait to bite into this deliciousness... it looked soo good! My very first CDD is finally here...

I cut it in half to reveal the thick, rich, jammy interior... and it was gorgeous... wait, what? What the... what is this??? Do figs abort this way? That's just cruel...

:(

My first one split open like the grand canyon. lol
See how the rest go.
Hope the rest ripen properly for you. Mine are exhibiting a concerning tendency. I touched the second fig that was very close to ripe, and the skin slid right off. I cut it open, and it was as bad as the first one. Now I am thinking all of them will likely abort. I have another CDD variety graft on that tree and hope that one ripens just as well as Ponte Tresa.

To be honest I got rid of all but one CDD, Blanc I've had since the beginning of my serious collecting.
It never does give me a lot that are edible, the either abort or split.
The tree seems very sensitive to the weather we have here.
Every year it starts off great, like many others...lol
But where summer take hold, the rains and humidity....it just says screw it.

Oh oh, couldn’t you tell me before I rooted four CDDS? 😂 On a serious note, I never had high hopes for CDDs, just want to try and see how it goes. All four trees seem very vigorous and grow very nicely. I’ll be happy if they work out for me here, and it’s fine if they don’t. The gtafts also took very well. I hope a few dogs ripen down so I can at least try them this year and if not, that fine too. At least I tried. 😆
