Ever have to hide anything you bought?

Sooo. I bought two new trees. I watched the delivery messages like a hawk, and I intercepted them while my wife was working and on a teleconference. I moved them to the deck like I was a ninja in a spy movie, and started trying to unpack them with my ninja sharp knives and TV on loud.

SH$T!!! They were packed as shown in the picture below.

They were packed so well it took me 15 - 20 minutes and I planned on 1-2 minutes max. And that foam makes a mess. I was going to stick them amongst my other trees and hope that they’d hide in plain sight. But cutting that foam off made a mess, marked the trees as new because no other pots have foam on them , and I had to hide the evidence faster than I could move. I was panicking. Luckily Jeannie was really into her zoom call and it seems like I’ve gotten away with it for now.

I think I have a problem.

I need friends to swear they just sent another gift and I had no choice in the matter. Anyone want to enter into a 🤫🤐pact?

Just kidding of course. Jeannie supports me and loves me. But I still feel like hiding them and the story above is true. Lol.

I used to be able to hide tree deliveries but now my husband has his own barbershop at our house. We turned the carport into it. So whenever a delivery truck pulls into the driveway it’s right in front of the barbershop door. 😂🤣😂🤣

When I asked the guy who sent me the tree he said he had some sort of refillable professional foam sprayer….

I suppose it comes down to the value of the tree you’re protecting…. Which leads me back to trying to identify the type of trees that @Gladstone1969 had delivered 😂

🤫 Ahem…. That’s a surprise that will be revealed as soon as I get fruit from the trees next year! Maybe I’ll post periodic hints between now and then with a prize for the person/people who guess correctly… call it fig “Wheel of Fortune”. “Would you like to buy a vowel???” “How about a close-up of 1/4 of an ostiole or achenes?” … “No, I’m sorry there is no neck.” “Honey from the eye for $50?”

Let’s leave it that it may be a very desired tree, that is not widespread and can’t be hyped too much yet because maybe only one or two other people have it (at this moment), that I know of, in the US.

Or maybe that paragraph above is just meant to bring intrigue to the conversation, throw you off the real identity of the provider and tree, and there is just a really anal shipper out there. If this will be a game, it needs to be hush-hush, and obfuscation and misdirection is fair play.

In fact, maybe this can be a game to bring donations to… Figfanatics! I’ll ask the provider if they have interest so I don’t break any trust (or maybe I don’t have to ask permission because it’s an eBay buy). Lol.

I won’t/don’t sell any tree or cuttings (I do give away cuttings and trade for postage).

There isn’t any profit motive for me to hype anything personally. I collect and share for joy and curiosity not profit - but I am all in favor of those who do this for whatever reason they have… we can all be family.

And sometimes I just can’t wait and must bid or buy it now, then hide it from the eye rolls. So I need some sellers in my life occasionally. Cherry Bomb anyone?!? …No, I didn’t.

I’ll post my variety list (excluding my two new foam-blasted acquisitions) when the game starts and will promise an air layer to the winner/winners of their selected tree from my collection. Only varieties without trading/selling restrictions will be offered as prizes…

And I get to make up the rules and adjudicate any controversies!

I think this should be a Zoom live contest to bring us all together. What say you? I’d love to meet some of you non DMV folks. BTW - remember September 13th is the DMV Figfest. Mark your calendars and come to the center of cesspool politics (which are never discussed at any fig events - PERIOD!) Information is on the Figfanatics calendar. I’ll be there.
