Anyone got one of these going so they can propagate rootstocks for this endeavor lol. I planned to sell these but after having success grafting to small trees I’ve been holding off to graft some new unknowns. I shall be receiving unknown blackberry this week and if it grows well until dormancy I will graft a bunch to get more going for next year.
Not sure what you have in all those pots. If well rooted than they would be good rootstock.Anyone got one of these going so they can propagate rootstocks for this endeavor lol. it’s around 100 well rooted and lignified cuttings or air layers of varying thickness. Been having awesome luck since I can control the moisture very easilyWhat am I looking at?
I know 2 big sellers that bought the trees back once it got hot. One paid a 1000 for a 3 year old tree.@TorontoJoe, I totally agree with you. And that sentiment also plays out within the sales history of S33. There is a Grower/Seller that openly likes to express his vast knowledge of figs that sold a whole mature tree and all the cuttings of said tree in separate auctions just a season ago. And here recently he wrote that he needed to get the variety again, Why? well now it has value, is it because its a great fig or because other people want it?
I personally see no problem with trees or cuttings selling for thousands of dollars. We are all adults. Figs are luxury item, they arent needed for survival. Gouging only happens when its items that are essential get driven up to unobtainable prices for no real reason.
There are only so many buyers willing to spend $1000, as is all the price points $500, $200, $100, $50 all the way down to the people that will only grow freebies.
I can put in but I think I already have the varieties we would want to buy. I can just send you cuttings this winter"THE $1000 FIG TREE THREAD FELLOWSHIP" By my count we currently have 4 members that have commited $ to this group .I suggest as a practicle matter we close this first group and move the logistics to a series of private messages (ie .who holds $ and makes purchase? ,which fig varietys, who does propigation etc. ) current members Figless,Figologist,PapaFig,Fig Gazer chime in if i missed your $200 comitment . Please start new fellowships if you want as a practicale matter if a fellow ship buys one cutting it is difficult to propigate enough sion wood in a season to generate more than 4 standard cuttings for the members in a year hence 4 member initial limit ?
I would bid you up but I’ve been fighting a leaky roof and flooded basementI'm winning.
I'm winning.
