@Fig Gazer mailed me a Xerox copy of the label from the first Fig Newton he ate (Stalle Circa 1930). Thought I would share with everyone since he had no way to upload. Very cool and thank you @Fig Gazer

My father back in the early 60's was a delivery driver for SunShine Biscuit Co., The company that use to be National Biscuit Co.. He would bring me home cases of Fig Newtons as they were my absolute favorite. And still are.

I have made these before and they are simple and taste great, they just don't last long......

I like to make Cajun sweet dough pies. Nothing Cajun tasting about them, but they are great tasting!!

Fig Newtons were originally made with California 'Mission' figs, produced under contract from a co-operative that became the Sun-Maid dried fruit company.

I've heard that they use Black Mission figs in those newtons. Is this true? I wonder where they are grown. I am guessing the San Joaquin valley CA.

That's usually a good guess for I wonder where they grow [anything]

I have 2 Black Mission fig trees. They don't like our climate at all but the figs taste just like the cookie when ready to pick. I just don't get many of them.
