Cutting growth

Just a little update! All of these were cuttings a few months ago. Look at them now! For some reason the Smith cutting decided to just go insane. It’s the tallest one. There’s a Smith, 3 Celeste’s, a strawberry Verte (that seemed to stall out forever but now doing good), Stella, Bourjasotte Grise, GXY, Excel, and the big yellow one from by my dads house. Had to Stake the smith so it grew straighter.i do go out there and rotate them so they don’t get to growing all wonky. I know they’re a little crowded right now, but they all seem to be pretty happy right there.

The 2 air layers from my LMF are doing well. The air layer on the 8 foot I258 I can finally see roots now so I’m happy about that. Will probably wait until like late August early September to air layer the JHA. It’s got a bunch of figs growing and I am too scared to mess that up lol.

Really excited for next years fig season! Thank all of you for your cuttings and help along the way. This has been a learning experience for sure!

I may or may not have 5 more cuttings hanging out in my shed. 😂😂 the Bordissot Negra (BNR reverted) already has roots circling the Wendy’s cup it lives in. The Panache is swelling a bud, the other 3 are just hanging out for now. Hopefully they start showing signs of life soon. But if just those two take, I’ll be happy for sure.

These look great . I did a number on some of mine . I got sloppy when I up potted them . Killed some and I have a couple are on life support hopping they stay alive.

Yeah man, I'm up to my ears in Celeste, but dang you get a big bowl of those you can go sugar coma. lol

Yea we usually pick like a gallon paint can at least of Celeste every weekend at my dad’s house for like 1.5 months or so. We’ve gotten the whole family to eat them now so we don’t have as many. But they are good.

Any Celeste cuttings are 100% sandbox cuttings lmao. The Smith and the Strawberry verte oddly enough are also sandbox cuttings. The Bourjasotte Grise, Stella, GXY, and Excel were from my batch with the coco choir. Obviously that batch of cuttings didn’t have that great of success for me.

To be 100% honest, I had way more success with the sandbox and sand bowls I had going than I did with coco choir. I had to sacrifice like 2/3 of the Celeste cuttings. I was thinking I wasn’t going to have much success with that. I ended up with probably 30 or so Celeste cuttings that actually made it and I was in no way prepared for that many Celeste trees at the time.

It’s been interesting to say the least. The one method that didn’t have the best recommendations some how worked the best for me.

The Bordissot Negra cutting I got is in a coco choir and sand mix. That cutting really seems to like that. I think I like the coco choir and sand mix the best. The GXY and the Celeste in the cup in the picture live in sand and coco choir. They seem to be happy with it too.

Just goes to show, there’s always room for new ideas.

100%... That's my way of doing things. Often ideas don't work... but sometimes they really do! But if you don't try and experiment.... nothing gained.
 
@t_corey89 Words cannot express how pleased I am with your success. When I first heard of your idea I did not have the greatest confidence of your success using this method. Which just goes to show lol how little I know... your Fig Tree starts look healthy, and vibrant congratulations.
 
One time, way back... I was feeling rough about some things I was trying to do, and it wasn't going well. He said to me, "anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly". Nothing ventured and all that... I do my best to live by this mantra now....

My Strawberry Verte also didn't do anything for the longest time. I think while the other cuttings were pushing out green growth, the Strawberry Verte was growing roots, because it finally started growing and has caught up with the others. IIRC another member has also reported the same thing from Strawberry Verte.
