Juliana Von Pressburg

Does anyone know or has information about this fig variety. Earlier this year I was in Europe and managed to get some cuttings from a local fig aficionado. Could not get much information on certain varieties that he sold me due to language barrier. I rooted few of them and can find literature as most are Italien and French varieties. This one is a mystery to me , the only thing I could get from the gentleman is that it comes from the Czeck republic / Southern Germany .
I would greatly appreciate any bits of information.

Think the correct name is Julia, not Juliana

It's an unknown found and named by André de Saint-Paul. Pressburg is the German name for the city of Bratislava, where he found it a few years ago.

This is how the seller is calling it . I am not sure to be honest of the correct name . On some of the text he sent me he even call it Von pressenburg . Go figure how confused I am .

I am dead certain the correct name is Julia von Pressburg, as that is what the finder named it. The 'van' in the seller's text is also incorrect: it should be 'von' (German for 'from', as you might know). So translated the name is Julia from Pressburg/Bratislava. Incidentally, the 'gyroki lapos' in the text is also written wrongly: it should be Györöki Lapos, a famous Hungarian variety, also known as Jégfüge ("Ice fig"). Not that all this matters much, as the misspelled names are still easily identifiable.

Thank you for correcting these spelling errors. I would still love to have some information on the tree and fruit . Like I had said in my original post I could not get much information of this variety as we didn’t speak the same language . Me French and him Flemish with broken English.

I finally got to taste Siblawi last season and I was blown away. At first I thought it was just me but the whole family agreed that it tastes like a Banana Popsicle

I'm hoping we get a bigger harvest this season... It was figgin amazing!

I need to check into those varieties. My family all loves bananas. And strawberries, but I know many of those fig varieties.

Yeah.... the colour has this "electric banana yellow" thing going on. It matches the flavour perfectly. For me, Siblawi doesn't really fall in to any of the traditional flavour profiles. Berry, figgy, melon, sugar etc.... I suppose it would be closest to honey but it's really got its own flavour.

I don’t think that even made sense…

This thing had been hanging for days and it wasn’t getting any softer. I couldn’t take it anymore so I picked it. It still seems like it could use another day but wow! I have never tasted a fig like this before. I sliced it into a few pieces so my wife and son could try as well. We looked at each other and said the same thing, I swear it tastes of banana popsicle. Quite sweet too!

The down side is this is a 3rd year tree and I’m only getting a handful. It was good enough that I plan to keep it and give it the 5 star treatment next season...

Pretty vigorous tree , I rooted this cutting in March and it’s already over 2 ft tall and has as a bonus a couple of figlets.
