Navel Orange Grafted to Grapefruit Seedling

A couple of years ago I found two live seeds growing inside of a grapefruit that had fallen from my backyard tree and planted them. Both of them grew into small trees about 1' tall.
I like oranges more than grapefruits and decided to graft a cutting from my old Dwarf Navel Orange tree onto one of the grapefruit seedlings.

I left a small piece of the grapefruit tree for another graft of a different variety in the future. So far, It seems to be happy!

I will. It will take me some time given it's spring and I am nursing new plants and need to get seeds out asap. But when I get a slow down which will be in the summer, I will plan and plot it out.

UofC put out this citrus grafting/rootstock compatibility chart some time back. You can imagine how much use it's been to me. Perhaps useful to some of you in warmer climates.

We have a bunch of trifoliate seeds growing now for rootstock. Based on the chart they seem to be compatible with most all citrus. Plus they will add a little cold hardiness.

Anywhere I look online it seems to be the go-to rootstock for citrus. Up here, anytime I ask what rootsotck anything is on I typically get the same look.
