I have a dilemma

Months ago, I left a cutting in a cup with water on my window sill, and I forgot about it. I really did not think it would do anything. Well, here it is now, and it is unlabled 😅
It even has a figlet growing. I am shocked it had the energy to make it. I normally cut them off.

Now what?

Never seen an underwater fig before!

I have a cutting sitting in a cup of water too with one growing, though not under water lol. Mine is like your one above. I’ve left it on as an experiment to see what it does with it. I’m really curious if it will ripen at all in water, but I also feel bad for the cutting because it probably really needs to be potted.

Unlabeled cuttings are the baine of me! unless you are sure its variety, do not share until ID is confirmed.

I have gotten to the point I just toss unlabeled / lost labels. It is so painful! I recently sorted through and had to cull too many!

That said, put in potting soil or dirt etc. Ditch the submarine fig and other figs. Be delicate with the roots. It should do fine.

I’ve come up with a simple solution for unlabeled / lost labeled trees, although shunned upon in this fanatical community - only grow a few varieties that are impossible to mistake from one another.

RULE # ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU LOSE ID OF A CUTTING ,DISTROY IMEDIATLY !!!!!! NO growing out that you might be able to ID later ,most of the time there will be a % of doubt and any doubt is un exceptable !!!MAY be painfull and or expensive dispose of and get over it ,use better marking/labeling and handeling procedures going forward ! double mark all cuttings ,double mark/label all grafts and map there positions on pots and trees .

I still keep mine. A good fig is a good fig even without a name.
When I talk to "normal" people about figs.
They say yeah I have a fig tree to.
If you ask what kind. It is either celeste or you get that look.
Names don't matter to most people.

IF your going to distribute figs you should know what it is ? WHEN you are looking for say a named capri fig rare and known to be persistnant and it arrives from a cutting that got mixed with others and it was not marked or labeled how good would you feel growing it out and using it for breading ? YEA the average person won't care if it tastes good ,thats why so many figs at big box stores are miss labeled and they get by selling them just fine ! BUT for this hobby group you have a responsability to do it right . ON your own turff you have every right to grow and multiply any thing in the way of figs you want ! PS as far as figs are concerend i am not "normal" .LOL.

I have only given cuttings away. And never the unknown's. Those are for me only.
No sir you and most of us are not normal. On a side note. Cuttings of SR-35, FPTC and others have made it and with luck will be growing around the world. 2 months in shipping but made it there. :)

Awesome timing on this thread! Nearly two months ago I pruned this green branch off the rootstock of my failed indoor grafting attempt. Just for fun I put it in a glass of water. It's right over my kitchen sink so I remembered to change the water every day.... I have not fed it and the window is north-facing

The leaves all look good with no wilting or browning. But as for roots... zilch, nothing, nada! @Steven J., I would prefer your dilemma :)

The leaves do not need to be cut.
