I’ve done the same with peppers… I can’t thing of many fruit that will grow true from seed. I think it’s done with pawpaw. Although I’m not sure why that works…. Occasionally even my peppers crossIt's a shame that figs can't be readily grown from seed. Some of the market figs might turn out to be really nice when home grown. I grow a lot of hot peppers and when I find something good looking in a market, I grow it out and circulate it, in fact I found some of the best peppers I've ever grown this way.

Agreed, that's always a risk. A friend of mine just sent me some heirloom pepper seeds from Southern Mexico, close to Guatemala, and I'm holding my breath that they grow true.

Probably... but I think I'll save some time and layerI’d suspect if you grow enough seed some will grow true. Rouge out everything else and only save seed from the late peppers polluted after you rouge.
