I broke down….

It's a shame that figs can't be readily grown from seed. Some of the market figs might turn out to be really nice when home grown. I grow a lot of hot peppers and when I find something good looking in a market, I grow it out and circulate it, in fact I found some of the best peppers I've ever grown this way.

I’ve done the same with peppers… I can’t thing of many fruit that will grow true from seed. I think it’s done with pawpaw. Although I’m not sure why that works…. Occasionally even my peppers cross

Agreed, that's always a risk. A friend of mine just sent me some heirloom pepper seeds from Southern Mexico, close to Guatemala, and I'm holding my breath that they grow true.

Sometimes it’s a pleasant surprise. I had a chocolate bell cross with what I think was some sort of cayenne. It was pretty tasty.

Peaches and citrus grow close to true to type from seed. Only a small bit of variation.
