Will it grow?

This cutting has nice roots but no growth up top. The buds dont look too lively. It's been this way for weeks. Will it eventually grow? There is one spot that might be showing a little something green. Do cuttings sometimes grow roots but no leaves?

The roots are very healthy. Maybe do a little scrape test on the bark just enough to see if it’s green. It may also send up a shoot from the root system. Hang in there for a while and see how it goes. 😄

I dipped the end in wax. Are you saying I should wrap the whole thing?

Yes, but leave the bottom 1/2” unwrapped. And best to use authentic parafilm (a few knockoffs work, many do not)- see pic.

Since you waxed the top, no need to wrap that, but personally I prefer parafilm for the whole thing (no wax).

It may grow fine without wrapping, but you will decrease your odds of dehydration significantly by parafilming it.

You can also mist the cutting with warm or room temp water. Your plant will grow foliage above eventually but if you want to prevent dehydration aside from using parafilm or wax I highly recommend misting daily at least. I would not physically touch the cutting or the cup too often because you may disturb the roots which slows down the process.
