Why would you water layer?

I watched more YouTube than usual over the last week. I came across this video. It's pretty cool and on further searching it's not that rare. The question to which I couldn't find an answer is, why would I do this? Can anyone think of a reason I would do this vs air layering?

Looks like my posts are influencing you. Anyway that’s an amazing technique. Are you going to try it?

The only reason I can see for doing this.
Is bugs. Ants sometimes start building a nest it the medium.
Besides that. When up potting you will have to use dry loose medium.
If not you will break the roots.
It may be a fun experiment but I think when you include up potting.
Using a "normal" medium success will be higher.

I just had a thought, water is very heavy. One would have to be very careful where they should put the water bag so not to snap off the branch.

I'm not sure yet. Seems like a lot of work LoL!

I'm always finding earwigs under the aluminum foil but I don't think I've ever had anything penetrate the plastic. I agree about reduced shock from pot up.

I imagine the bottle would need to sit on the ground or a separate stake would be needed to support the bottle.

I'm just thinking of how many regular layers I can set in an hour vs how long these would take me. Maybe there are some plants that will root better in water, but in this case he's got a fig tree.

It’s something I would probably try out for no other reason than, why not?

It definitely isn’t practical in any sense though. He was able to get a few roots in a month using this method which may or may not survive uppotting. In that timeframe, a standard airlayer can produce a nice rootball that will survive and thrive uppotting near 100% of the time.

I seen this method while watching fig videos some time ago.
It did not appeal to me at all.
If Air layering works as well as it does, I can't see going through this for the same result.

There is a method to quickly air-root with only aluminum foil + liquid/gel rooting hormone to get small roots between every node. The problem is these folks never post their survival rate after up-potting. Roots may be easy, but if up-potting success is low who cares? I may try this method this spring/summer for fun…. There is a YouTube video on it.

A while ago, someone asked BMW why they introduced X1 or X2, or one of those. Their answer was - because we can.

People do all kinds of weird stuff, like sprouting tomato seeds inside a tomato or a banana. It works, I get it. One could probably stick a seed in their mouth or some other cavity on their body and it will probably eventually sprout... but why would you do it? The only reasonable explanation I have is clicks, views, hype...

Body cavity cutting propagation. The newest rooting method! 😆
