Very late season figs....

Thanks to the greenhouses I'm still plucking a few but I had a bit of time today and decided I needed to take them down to let the figs go dormant. We have no frost on the forecast so hopefully some more to come but these came in today. A nice big I-258... Some BM Moonlight, Vince #3 and Impellizzeri

With temps kept at 18c in there the sugars were still spot-on

I picked a couple from Figue de Sollies yesterday that looked like yours, the inside did not look like yours. lol

Compost.:)

How do the BM Moonlight taste?
Are they normally this late for you?
Do you know if they are before regular Black Madeira? Sorry for all the questions, I am very keen for Moonlight, as I have heard that it is an earlier Black Madeira. 😊

This is my first year growing the BM Moonlight, and they've been glorious! I can't speak for the ones in this batch as my wife ate them all

I got the I-258 and Vince3 so definitely fair.

None of them are normally this late.... this was a very odd year. It was really cold here until well into June. Everything was late.

BM Moonlight ripened half its figs. I didn't ripen a single BMKK this season. The tree set loads of fruit but there just weren't enough warm days.

No need to apologize. This place is built for questions. So far, for me it is quite a bit earlier.

Thanks, that is very helpful and funny. 😆

Very nice experiment Joe👍 had my last few figs from the garage. I had them stored 2 weeks ago took off all the leafs but left a few dozen figs hanging. A few were good but a few were just watery and lacking flavour. You just know it’s the end.

It’s always a bit sad ending the fig season. Good thing we have a winter hobby ;)

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of BM Moonlight. I’ve only heard of Black Madeira and Black Madeira KK. Does it taste the same as the KK

Very similar if not the same but so far it seems to be a few weeks earlier than KK. I can't speak for the other qualities yet but it was outstanding for me this year. I look forward to more experience with it.

I posted about it here
