Verdal Longue

Verdal Longue. On of my last figs of the season. I wasn't sure if it would ripen in time. I've brought it into the garage a few nights when it was due to frost. Still not completely ripe, but this was probably as good as it was going to get. Strong raspberry flavor. If it was fully ripe I'm pretty sure the sugar content would go up quite a bit. Still, pretty darn good. Now I want a fully ripe one! I think this is supposed to be another pretty late fig, though. So, it's on the bubble...I'll grow it another year or maybe two, but if the figs continue to ripen very late, this one may be looking for a new home.

That’s true! I do also have a bag of frozen figs for jam that I could snitch a couple out of! I like the way you think!

I just found another Verdal Longue and it was pretty good for a late season fig.

Mine started ripening in early October so it wasn’t any later than other Adriatic types.

Mebbe you could surround it with tiki torches at night so they ripen more and then you won't die from scurvy.
