I uncovered 9 in-ground trees today.
Three Hardy Chicago, and:
RDB, Hollier, MBVS, RLBV, and Takoma Violet that were rooted in January 2024 and put in the ground in July 2025 (they were literally 7 months old).
Another MBVS was rooted directly in the ground in June 2024
and I did not expect it to survive the winter. It is a single trunk and was about 5 feet tall and still green -not lignified at all- when I covered it late November with a thick layer of dead leaves. I had forgotten all about it and noticed it today while uncovering a nearby Hardy Chicago, I was astonished to see the entire twig is still healthy and fully awake.
Photos show RDB + Hollier and RLBV + Takoma Violet.
