Yeah...Some crazy stuff goes on in the world of figs.I think you’ve expressed why I’m having problems wrapping my head around this. Figs that throw consistent doubles, what @rnexus posted, or are measurably more productive I understand and even desire…I have a Smith Sport that is purportedly proven superior to all others and is traceable back to Bencnel Farms. I paid a premium for it but hope to get returns once it’s matured. In this instance the premium wasn’t that much and I had a high degree of trust of what the seller was telling me.
It’s the same in other collectors hobbies. I’m also into numismatics and am always chasing ‘top pops’ or the next best thing. But as I gain more experience within the field…be it tropical fruit trees, coins, or figs, it gets easier to be dismissive about the ‘cherry bombs’ but there’s some with greater validity such as this…yes the guy hasn’t trialed it and it’s not proven consistent or desirable but it’s equatable to buying a newly found fig that’s not proven common. In these instances though, the premium is more than the trust being applied to what the seller is saying.
Upon my mother’s death, we found a glass measuring cup that was so old the markings had wore off. My mother had taken a black permanent marker and etched in where the lines should have been. I went to Walmart and bought a new one with fancy shape and markings on the bottom. I broke it and threw it away within the month. I now have a glass one with black magic marker lines.
Truth.
Lol, I actually have a Texas Everbearing...it is loaded up and I'm waiting to munch.Haha I’ll send some for cost of shipping as a sympathy token for getting my cutting board first
I tried to sell these cuttings last year and someone on figbid got 3 logs for like 5 bucks plus shipping. I planned to send a handful to @Figless for some new members also
I should sell it as Texas everbearing 2x so I can get a nice profit lol. I’m wondering if the size of container and heavy feeding makes these fruit heavy rather than variety. Another possibility is the cool springs I have after a couple hot weeks in may then cooling down for beginning of July may trick the next years breba crop to come out early. I think I have maybe 25-30 varieties doing this double fruiting this year.Lol, I actually have a Texas Everbearing...it is loaded up and I'm waiting to munch.
I see lots of varieties shooting out 2 figs at one node...some more than others.I should sell it as Texas everbearing 2x so I can get a nice profit lol. What's probably most important is the knowledge of how to get most, or all varieties to put out double figs at each node....with tight node spacing.I see lots of varieties shooting out 2 figs at one node...some more than others.
In pots and in ground....I certainly don't know what the deciding factor is be it feeding, watering, sunlight exposure, etc...
I don't really think it's anything considered "special".
But...ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I'm just a cave man! Your would frightens and confuses me!SNL
Your fig should easily fetch 5k dollars on figbid. That's funny you mention that. Check out my post from yesterday.
First time i have seen 3 figs from 1 node. I have no idea what this variety is. I think it came from @SpiritFarmVa as rootstock. 90% sure. Most nodes have 2 figs per
How much for a 1/4 node?I've got 4 fat figs squatting on a single node like it's an Airbnb in fig-topia. I'm about to clone these juicy rebels, and then—get this—I’m selling half the node for twice the price. That’s right, capitalism with a side of horticultural sorcery. Call me the Elon Musk of figs.
