He sold one last week too that fetched $320. I’m scratching my head as to what’s the big dealio. It's a bit ridiculous to sell a 'potential' unknown. If he grew it for a few years, took cuttings each year and they continued to exhibit that characteristic, maybe that would be something worth selling. At least Ondata is a very good fig.

It's just 2 people trying to outbid each other. In those scenarios, the price can go VERY high
That's funny you mention that. Check out my post from yesterday.I mean there are rare instances that some nodes on figs that have actually pushed out 3 figs at one node but I don't see it as some sort of Infinity Node that will just keep on pushing figs from it throughout the season - it was just late.
That's funny you mention that. Check out my post from yesterday.
First time i have seen 3 figs from 1 node. I have no idea what this variety is. I think it came from @SpiritFarmVa as rootstock. 90% sure. Most nodes have 2 figs per
Cuttings from this one would sell for a good price if worded right. That's funny you mention that. Check out my post from yesterday.

I'm pretty sure you did. I'll go get a close up of the 4 figs tomorrow. I forgot to do it today.HA - perfect example!
Edit - WOAH did I just witness 4 figs from one node that's at the top of the soil line!?

Not to hijack the thread, but I think the 3 node fig is the same variety that produced this mutant fig, in this thread.

I would not cut it either. Just using the growth as an example.I'm not even going to cut the tip off this tree this year. I think the key to getting this one to produce like this again is to not change the hormone profile dramatically. Next year I will give it the same growing conditions / timing I did this year. If it does the same next year, I'll take 1 or 2 cuttings, then treat those the same way as the mother tree. If the cuttings are successful and exhibit the same characteristics as the mother I will consider trading / selling. Seems like 2-4 year process before even 1 or 2 cuttings are distributed. It would be worth the wait if it's a tasty fig and produces 2-4 figs per node.
I'm hesitant to take a tip and graft because that might disturb the hormone profile. Though the thought had crossed my mind to graft onto Cherry Cordial and see what the results are.
I knowNOOOOOO!!!!
Should of let it grow - sometimes small plants will just stagnate for weeks almost months (my Cosme Manyo potted cutting for example).
Would of been awesome to grow out this monstrosity!
I knowI feel a bit silly now but at the time I was thinking what am I going to do with a mutant that doesn't grow. How could it get energy with no leaves? And I had 2 trees like that! I also have another confirmed mutant growing in my collection but it's not able to be found right now. It had 1 of those inverted flowers, but it grew out 3 healthy shoots below it. I'm going to see if I can track it down this autumn when I re organize.
The mutants 100% came from @SpiritFarmVa They were given to me as rootstock. It's all super vigor no fmv trees, so I was shocked when I saw those weird flowers. Maybe we can replicate it this year. Though I would shocked if it happened again.
I think you’ve expressed why I’m having problems wrapping my head around this. Figs that throw consistent doubles, what @rnexus posted, or are measurably more productive I understand and even desire…I have a Smith Sport that is purportedly proven superior to all others and is traceable back to Bencnel Farms. I paid a premium for it but hope to get returns once it’s matured. In this instance the premium wasn’t that much and I had a high degree of trust of what the seller was telling me.The thing to consider here is, even if this tree did have a special trait where it put out a new fig where the first fig was ripening...the chances that it will ripen in time for you to eat it the same season are very slim.
So is it then a special trait?
No more special than having 2 or 3 figs at one node that you will likely get to eat same season.
Oy...
