We had a nice fig tasting today—Cavaliere (Baud), Exquisito, Honey Plum, Izbat an Naj, LSU Hollier, RLBV, Sangue Dolce, Unk Pastilliere (Not), Violet Sepor, and White Madeira #1.

The plate got too crowded once the figs were halved so I focused on the figs that we were tasting for the first time (Honey Plum for me and Izbat an Naj and Violet Sepor for my guest taster) in this photo.

All the figs were pretty good—especially since many trees are 2-yrs old. It really was a case of how well-ripened they were. The Cavaliere was intentionally picked a bit early as we’re expecting rain tomorrow and the WM#1 were first figs of the season that had ripened on a low branch that didn’t get much sun.

The guest’s favorite of the night was the Izbat an Naj was sweet with pineapple flavors at the end. Hubby’s favorite was the RBLV—he and the guest picked up plummy tones that they liked. My favorite was between the Exquisito (which tasted of blueberries) and the Sangue Dolce (which had dried slightly on the tree so it was extra sweet with more figgy flavor).

@9ah-figlet... What an incredible feast. Congratulations on growing so many photogenically delicious figs. I am absolutely Green With Envy.

I certainly wish I had been a guest taster at your fig feast. It's gotten so cold in Berkeley CA we started plucking off the figs we knew would not ripen in time to encourage the ones that might ripen for us.

Thanks @Figless. There is a younger fig grower only a couple miles from me who I've been happy to get to know and share my figs with. The hobby is best shared with others.

They all look delicious.

Are you keeping a running tally/score of favorites? I suppose it would be difficult with all the varieties you’re growing.

Thanks @bushdoctor82!

Yes, I'm keeping my ripening date post current and recording taste impressions when I have a full plate to compare. I'm really learning that the best fig is the best ripened fig of the night.

If I had to pick, the best figs have been Cavaliere (Baud), Sangue Dolce, de la Senyora Sineura (it was so overripe that I had to eat it with a spoon so didn't photograph it), Campaniere, RLBV, and Izbat an Naj. I imagine my perennial flavors of Smith and I-258 will muscle into the top figs when they start producing.
