Some sure do take their time, I have 2 that did not make it.3 figs of mine that i thought were goners are also showing signs of life but from the ground--still no life on my Peters Honey, unk Lebanese and my VDB, and another unk from my buddy (Sicilian) it looks like it's alive but nothing so far.
I believe after a couple years they adapt and may not die to the ground. My buddy in Mississippi had a terrible freeze there this year that killed everyone of his outdoor figs. Said all but one has survived and sending new shoots up. Like you said they are tough trees.
Right, that is odd to get hit that bad there sheesh. His have been in ground for years. It was just unusual they get hit that hard of freeze where he lives. 14 miles from Gulf of America.

A few years ago I brought my potted figs into the garage but forgot one, one of my favorites. I didn't realize it till the Spring...I felt like I murdered it.That's weird. When they die to the ground up here they've always come back for me... at least the ones actually in the ground. Anything in pots is toast
Did that with one of my caprifigs. Gah!A few years ago I brought my potted figs into the garage but forgot one, one of my favorites. I didn't realize it till the Spring...I felt like I murdered it.
