It happens when you root with loads of humidity. The roots will drop very soon when it dries up a bit

They look a bit starved for light

It should. When I root outdoors I bury the entire cutting to the soil line. This way I don’t need to worry about humidity above grade and any roots stay in the ground. I don’t know many others who do it this way but it works well for me
