Strawberry Freeway 2024

Alright bucko,  Where are you at...I'm booking a stay out there so I can find some of that figoodness! :D

Dude, that looks mighty fine!

@ Strawberry Freeway. It's amazing how you fig Finders, find all dem figs. Is there any way we can get the backstory on this early fig find. Was there truly a freeway involved in it's discovery? For me the Back stories of these old, and possibly wild California figs, is the very best part.

Have you ever thought about going fig hunting in Greece, Turkey or Australia where the Capri figs, and the Fig wasp, are busy creating new varieties?

I found this fig when the homeless had been moved by the city, from who knows where, to all the local parks. They had spilled over to the areas under overpasses and anywhere there was shade. Someone had cut a huge hole in a fence that kept people away from the freeway from the exterior side. Me, armed with my sheers went into this mini forest. This area was an oasis for wild fruit trees. I found a few mulberry trees, some white, some red, and a few fig trees growing there, one of them being a caprifig. I have Strawberry Freeway #1 and #2, this is #1. I thought they were the same tree until I discovered two trunks growing within a foot of each other and different fruit on each.

@"Figology"#21. Wow Strawberry 1, and 2, sure look like photogenically scrumptious figs. You certainly have a talent for Horticultural discovery, and adventure. I am always impressed, and amazed by people who have this ability.

I fed a couple thousand meals on the streets of Los Angeles, after my father died. He had dementia, and they tend to starve themselves. I've been in more homeless encampments then I care to think about. I never was scared, or worried. I was just trying to help out since the city, and State provided no services. I never would have thought to look for fruit trees though I certainly fed a lot of homeless people alongside the Los Angeles freeway. You have an amazing ability, and one that I certainly Envy.

BTW I would love to have a chance to propagate both of these figs. They look so delicious.

You never can be too cautious going into someone's drug den, in the middle of a mini forest. You never know what to expect from people, especially if their mental state might be compromised.
