There’s definitely some type of element in the skin that’s giving off a different type of taste. The mother tree looks ancient and is on public land that was once a farm. I haven’t tasted chocolate since the mother tree, but my tree is only a couple feet tall so I’ll give it time to mature. The figs is still sweet and tasty.

@"Figology"#21, please tell me everything about the mother tree is it your discovery? So interesting, with such few details. An old wrinkled grandmother tree who taste like chocolate. Your pictures of the fruit look absolutely scrumptious. True beauties.

A friend of mine told me about the tree. I researched the property it sits on and discovered who owned the land prior to it being donated to the State. The mother tree looks 50+ years old.

@"Figology"#21 Great backstory on the mother tree thank you so much for sharing it with us. Did you ever get a picture of the old girl? I think this is the only fig tree I've ever heard of with any kind of a chocolate taste. It's very intriguing. Was there any seedlings around her? You didn't mention whether she was a California Girl??

BTW please let me know if you want a caretaker of a cutting in Berkeley California. See how it likes caprification.

@figless I was once a member at Ourfigs, there should be some info available there, possibly a picture of the tree. The fig pictured is caprified, I have the wasp here in Los Angeles.

@"Figology"#21 thank you for getting back to me with such a complete update. You're Saint Chocolate Unk fig is certainly a variety I will try to propagate someday soon.
