I'm a fig collector like many of you but not a seller. I have 3 greenhouses on my property to house my collection as it grows.
I'm curious as to how many of you fig enthusiasts have been having collections of items since you were young.
I started collections when I was 8 yrs old with rocks, then small glass perfume bottles, then old coins, then gold, and Giuseppe Armani figurines so know it is a personality trait I have. How many of you are collectors at heart and the figs tugged your collecting personalities?
I had no idea how many fig collectors were out there until 3-4 years after I started my collection. Of course initially I thought I was the only one so was surprised when I finally found the fig groups and Youtube videos. Simply amazing.

Hi Tara,
Thank you for sharing your story—it’s always fascinating to hear how someone’s collecting journey evolves over time. Your passion and dedication are clearly evident, especially with three greenhouses devoted to your fig collection. That’s no small feat!
I think many of us in the fig-growing community can relate to what you described. The drive to collect, to learn, and to preserve something meaningful often starts early. For some, it was rocks or stamps; for others, it might’ve been baseball cards or antiques. And for many of us, figs are the perfect intersection of nature, history, flavor, and discovery—it’s easy to see how they draw in true collectors at heart.
It’s also true that finding the fig community can be a revelation. You think you’re on a solitary journey until you suddenly realize you’re part of something much bigger. Between the online groups, YouTube channels, and passionate hobbyists around the world, the fig world is surprisingly vast and welcoming.
Your experience really resonates with what makes this community so special—shared curiosity, respect for the craft, and a love for the endless diversity that figs offer.
Thanks again for the thoughtful post.
