Yes and if contaminated it would throw the results. We tested one fig last year with them.

I have been thinking about sending them a few Capri to test the results.
I understand it works very well for Cannabis.
But figs I would think are more complex.

I can see that with the saliva. But I was wondering about the extra plastic. I know plasticizers can contain phthalates which mess with estrogen. Do you know if that’s why with the instructions against extra plastic wrap and tape? Or is it just because they want an easy to open package?

This is a test designed specifically for F. carica. It checks for the gene discussed in the attached paper.

They never explained the extra packaging part as much as the need to have no foliar sprays.
I’d guess being that it’s all in a lab setting they need control of every variable. But that’s just a guess.

We open these envelopes to temporarily remove the sample. When the envelopes are sealed shut with adhesive or tape, it adds a few extra seconds to the opening process, and the envelope will sometimes get damaged during opening. For a single fig sample, it's not a big deal. When we are having to open thousands of kits for cannabis sex tests, those extra seconds really add up. Drives our lab techs crazy, lol.
