I was spraying my tomatoes with aspirin and thought "I wonder if this would help figs?". This study popped up in my search. It looks like foliar spraying salicylic acid (aspirin) 8 and 5 days before harvest lowers the rate of splitting. BUT it also lowers coloration and enzymes so it might want to be reserved for only high split prone varieties. There is a lot more info in the study and I just scanned it quickly but thought I would share.
Has anyone used an aspirin foliar spray to prevent splitting?
