Rooting figs

I am curious about how everyone prepares their cuttings for soil, for example: do you scratch the bottom and use rooting hormone? Or do you just put rooting hormone? Or just put it in soil without scratching and applying hormone?

I haven't seen any experiments. Some say hormones can speed it up and others say it can cause rot. Some people do scoring and don't say it causes more damage and can cause rot. I've tried both scoring and hormone powder. I get lazy now so I don't score. For hormone, I mix it with water so it's very diluted (I'm not even sure if powered hormone disolves in water) and quickly dip each cutting in there. I used to brush it on which took 5 seconds but it was kind of dusty in the house.
I open had a fig pop soil break when up potting. Of the scraping/scoring I saw, I didn't see any roots there. But I didn't get to see all of it.

I tried several methods last year and had the best success using fig pop method. I now do that method and add a larvacide and clonex solution to my water. I scrape two sides and dip cuttings in Hormodin 2 rooting powder. I think the Clonex gel if applied heavily can cause rot.

I used to scratch, used to use hormone...but slowly found out neither are needed.
Doesit hurt to use them?...nope.
The hormone should be used in moderation, especially powder.
Too much powder can lead to rot, because it gets wet and clings to the wood and stays wet.

It preferrence.

I pretty sure I have experienced root rot from gel hormone's, I think the cuttings that were scored and rooting hormone have really struggled or died after up potting. I will cut out the rooting hormone for a while though. I’m curious and will pay attention to the difference

I have not tried fig pop yet, I usually root my cuttings in 4x9 tree pots. I think I’m going to start using that method

I have not tried the fig pop yet, I’m about to order the materials to do it. But I am not going to use rooting hormone this time around, I usually use 4x9 tree pots

Tree pots are all I use these days.
I have the best success with them.
You may find great success with pops..a lot of people do.
Hope you the best in your root adventures. :)

There is actually a combo between both where you plant in the tree pot then wrap the pot in a produce bag. Notorious Fig has it on his youtube channel.

I just prune oft a little of the top and bottom so it’s a fresh cut, wrap the top of the cutting with parafilm wax then stick the bottom in potting medium in a container, I like McDonalds large milkshake cups best because it has the perfect cover, dome shape with a hole at the top l

I do use fast food cups when I run out of 4x9 pots, but I am going to stop using rooting hormone for sure.
