Propogation Adventure: Updates & Progress

Hey! Thanks a bunch to @TorontoJoe for the free cuttings, I'm going to try to document the progress and see if I can figure out what works and what doesn't and hopefully get most of them to take root. Feel free to give me any pointers too. I kinda had to power through before work the other day real quick to get these all potted up. It looks like a mess but I felt like I had a decent flow going for my very limited time window.

So I've been gradually letting my potting mix dry out in the sun for about a week or two to reduce the new fungus gnat problem that I didn't expect to encounter. Luckily it stays pretty dry on the hill I live on so hopefully that helped a little bit. I searched for Pro-mix and Gnatrol locally but unfortunately didnt find any, so I just tried to pot up what I had really quick to keep any flyers from landing which I only saw maybe one or two which I quickly swatted away.

I mixed in some perlite into the soil and watered it with a very light amount of B-1 added to the water for root formation. Soaked the pots maybe 3/4 the way through and hopefully I didn't waterlog them too much as I read somewhere that less is better.

Then I dipped them in the rooting hormone and potting them up in gallon pots carefully and added perlite on top to stave of fungus gnats and then misted the wood lightly to add a little moisture.

Next I wrapped up each pot fully in a compostable produce bag to keep the moisture in and create the humid environment.

There is some reflective lighting from the adjecent rooms but no direct sun exposure. Inside my place it has naturally been getting down to 65 degrees at night and up to about 80 during the day currently. Not sure if I should try to use the seedling heating pad I got online as I don't actually have a working soil thermometer, the one I bought online unfortunately doesnt work well I discovered. But overall the temperature is definitely better than outside which has been dropping as low as the upper 40s at night lately in my zone 8b location. Here they are:

I'm tempted to open them up and mist the wood again today and tomorrow considering I think the perlite may dry out the upper part slightly, but overall I'm excited to see how the process unfolds and how many of them will take root :)

It looks like you're off to a great start @denderian !

If gnats are (or become) a problem: "Mosquito Bits" ($14.97 + tax at Home Depot) might possibly help you.
I believe Troy Priddy recommended using it for the initial watering. It seeds the soil with a harmless (for us bacterium) that produces a spore-like crystal toxin that kills larvae of the gnats and other insects. Once the soil has been seeded with these bacteria, you should be good for a while. It's totally biological as well...

Nice collection of varieties!
