Preparing for the freeze

I have potted figs that have never been in the ground but they have been outdoors all season, subject to the all the goofy elements. I think they were all started from cuttings this spring.

Do I put them at a disadvantage by planting them now, should I just bring them in?

Should I drop the whole pot into the earth for temperature management?

I think I'd really prefer to plant them out and wish them luck but I also don't want to murder them for my own convenience... what do you think?

Tres de Esplets, petite Negra, little Ruby, and Texas everbearing. 16 oz Dixie cup for scale.

In my opinion, I would store them this winter, and ground the in the spring.
Give them 1 season in ground to grow out a nice root system before they have to endure a winter outside.

You'll get different advice from many people...do what you feel is going to benefit you and your trees. :)

@Lish you may want to put your general location/zone and your wishlist in your signature. It can help when people offer advice and you never know when someone will feel like sharing cuttings.
