Pop up ads

Does anyone else get them?  When someone posts pictures and I tap on one to see it larger it appears threw a format called imgbb.  Suddenly at the top of the photo an advertisement pops up also at the bottom right corner.  My iPad is set on block pop ups how do they get through?

This is a new forum. Must say I don't like the popup ad's either. But we all are working to make things better. Mainly Joe. Not sure he sleeps  :dodgy: Give everything time. And please keep posting the good and the bad. It is the only way we know what most members want.

I do not see ads on my iPad, but I also use an ad blocker called Lockdown that you can get in the app store.

The popup blocker won’t disable ads on its own.

The ads are likely coming from imgbb, which is a free service for photos and helps minimize storage on the forum.

Is lockdown a free app or is there a fee?

That is a good question… it’s been awhile since I got it, so I’m going by memory. I think the ad blocking is free, but the VPN portion, which I don’t use, is paid.

I have vpn in my iPad but I turned it off.  When I first installed it I suddenly couldn’t go to any of the websites I go to all the time, kept saying unsafe or It just wouldn’t let  go there.

Yeah, VPNs are helpful when you want to hide your IP address or want to access things in another country, but otherwise they can cause some trouble if someone is unfamiliar with them.

But allyou need for this is an ad blocker that works, some do the job, others don’t, free or paid.

I know... It totally sucks... Currently images are hosted by a third party. They will be gone as soon as we're on the new software platform.

Our test migration is now scheduled. I'll keep everyone in the loop as things progress. I'm hoping by end of next week we're have a whole new, add free image experience.

You all deserve it!

@"Figgerlickinggood"#7 @"TorontoJoe"#1 @"Inflorescence"#181The good news is Joe says this will all be in our rear view mirror very soon. Teresa thank you so much for bringing it up. I thought it was a punishment being visited upon me for the many Misadventures of my youth. Now I know it's a free program that is bedeviling me. imgbb will be gone soon enough, and tell them I will do what I've been doing already right clicking my phone to make the ads vanish.

@"ktrain"#2 it must be my iPad.  The ad on the top doesn’t block the picture so I could ignore that one but as you can see the one on the bottom right corner blocks the picture, even when I tap on the x it disappears but another ad takes its place.

Teresa. We've been testing out our new tools. Ads will soon be a thing of the past.
