I am sooooo excited to show you all something very important to me. This is a new fig variety that I'm introducing - it's an Iranian fig that was brought here in the late 80s by my father. The fig is named Mehdi's Famous Fig. Please take a look at the video and share in my excitement!

Wow that is a fantastic looking fruit! And with the amount of vigor it shows, surely it will do well with inground planting.
Have you had any issues with splitting fruit?
Can you go into any more detail on the planting situation at the other locations you had it growing?

In the 3 years that it's given me fruit, it's never split. The video shows one that developmentally burst open but that's not the same thing. I've got some in 3g pots and they fruited as well but all 3 of those had head starts. For the in ground one that's against the rock wall in the video, the tree itself grew very quickly (I heavily composted/worm castings the area prior to planting) but I have a feeling that the more rigorous fertilization schedule I have for the potted one is giving it a boost over the in ground one. I'll post an update video once those ripen.

You sure are getting a lot of delicious brebas. I saw your video the other night of your Stella breba, it blew me away 🤯. I have a Stella cutting I rooted and it’s doing very well seeing yours it made me very happy I have one. I purchased a CDA from OTBP last December and I did an old Italian man way directly in the ground rooting. It’s supposed to be a very large honey fig, do you have one of those? I can only imagine how it’s brebas would look like.

I do have CDA but this was the first year for me and it didn’t fruit. But I got my dad a big one from a grower this January and it fruited for him and he said it was delicious.

Very exciting.
I hope that the big rotting stump next to it in ground doesn't hinder the development.
I'd love to grow your families fig. When you are ready to distribute, I'm in.

Outstanding colour! (Yes, that's how we spell "colour") It looks more berry than many berries.... I need to try this fig!

*The exclusion of fig-chewing noises is sincerely appreciated!

I don't know Medhi... but I'm pretty sure we should hang out!

Thanks for posting!

How did it do where it grew it in Florida...I'd be interested in hearing about its split resistance to our rain here in FL.

Just south of you in Siesta Key/Sarasota. I just messaged him and he said about 25% of them split, but in knowing my 88 year old dad, he's not the best at picking them so they stay on way past ripeness and often explode.

Kewl beans. Next time you’re in town we should meet up.

Totally! Do you know Jason Parisi? Lives off of Proctor? :)
No…I’m just south of Sun City Center by the 301 and Little Manatee river.

I sent Jason a friend request on FB. I’ve got a few things on your wish list that are young, and would to exchange cuttings at some point.

Finally found time to watch video. Very cool fig but even cooler the family history and story. I love the ones like that. My friends father is from Iran and I'd love to get a cutting to share with him. Thanks for sharing the fig and story with us.
