My first graft in years

My Ciliegia Dolce cutting wasn’t making it so I took one node to attempt rooting and used another to graft to my Hollier. I chose the Hollier since I had a large branch that died back partially, which left a good grafting surface to start with.

I am seeing the bud swelling on the graft, so I am hopeful of success, but don’t know when I should let it get full sun yet? Right now I just have a solo cup overturned on it (which has stayed in place through a huge thunderstorm already surprisingly!)

If it makes it, I’ll have to make an air layer later since winter could just kill it again this coming year, but I’m taking it one step at a time.

I normally cover or partially cover the scion for a while until it looks strong enough on its own. Plus, I usually remove all the rootstock growth below the graft point.
