I tried today first 2 chip grafts and didn’t go as easy as the youtube videos I watched 😀 the main problem I faced is the cut on the main tree is much larger than the chip grafts so I end-up trying to align it only to 1 side which going to decrease success chances… not sire how to cut a narrower cut in the main branch? Is it about what the knife I used? Not sure! I will be delighted if one other two or both take !

I would do a T-bud or modified T-bud for something like that. It’s not your knife. When your rootstock is really wide, it is hard to make a cut that’s narrow enough yet deep enough to accept a chip bud like you depicted.

The first step is definitely getting over the fear of doing it. So you are on your way... its all adjustments from here.

I would try on a smaller branch too, as that thick is hard to cut a similar section out of. Cleft grafts and whip and tongue can be great for figs too, if chip grafts don't work out
