I was asked if I wanted to sell some of my 5 gallon figs at an upcoming event. I currently have 31 in 5 gal pots. Initially I thought, Great! I can recoup some of the cost. But after I got home and started looking at which ones to sell, I just couldn’t part with any! I’m still so new and haven’t tasted them - and what if I sell something and then regret it? I’m now officially a fig-hoarder….

Selling could help fund the collection. At least a little. To this day I have not sold a tree or a cutting. Only given away. Some in seven gal grow bags.
I would say if you have extras. Sell them. Use the money to care for the ones you keep. Or to add more. Your choice.

It’s an interesting prospect, but i couldn’t do it without tasting them unless it was a very generous offer or i knew i could get replacements nearly immediately

Ruth, I feel your pain. I MUST reduce my collection of more than 160 varieties to a “more manageable” 50 varieties by the end of next year’s growing season. Winter storage is my limiting issue as trees grow bigger and bigger.

I’ve already given away more than 20 varieties, but have a long way to go. It only gets harder and harder to part with additional trees. I have so many one year trees that still need taste testing too. If I save a young tree, an established one must go.
