Letizia Fig

I grow it. It's very vigorous. I got it last year. I can't speak on cold hardiness yet or taste, but it grew very well the first season. It rooted faster than all my other cuttings that I took in that batch. I planted a cutting in ground at my father's house, I'm in 6b, I don't plan on heavily protecting his figs, I might try to give them some minimal protection if I'm around and have the time.

I’ve got a good one going from last season, it didn’t make the ripening cut off here for me on its first leaf but I purchased from Reirden on figbid. Here’s my purchase history of it. When I get fruit I will post it, I can get some cuttings or air layers possibly this summer.

Ok forgot I had one air layer I cut two weeks ago. Maybe we could do a 4th of July drawing, winner pays shipping? I’ll figure up how to do the game wheel and test it out lol. I’m licensed to ship anywhere lower 48 besides California or Arizona for the players that want to join. It will ship July 14 or after winners choice.

So funny to see this thread about the Letizia Fig.

I was visiting a friend in New Mexico last May, and we went to lunch in Silver City NM at a place called Whiskey Creek Zocalo. They had an attached nursery, and they were selling these small fig trees called Letizia. I usually have very strict rules with adding new trees but I also live in a state where I dont typically see nurseries selling figs so I'm not used to seeing them sitting there for sale. Much harder to resist, ha.

Anyway, I bought one and when it was time to fly home I bare rooted the tree, stuck it in my checked bag and off I went to the airport.

It was repotted at home, and it just started pushing new growth in the last week or so.

Also, just to add: To try to prevent the spread of bugs etc, all of the original soil remained in New Mexico. I took off 75% of the leaves when I bare rooted it and I when it was home I gave it a few rounds of insecticide/sulphur combo and put it in quarantine where it remains. New growth looks pretty FMV heavy so far but it is just about to get its first does of fertilizer.
