Jolly rancher

So I’ve ripened a jolly rancher from the fig hunter without pollen. You could say I was less than impressed. Looking for others input on this fig also, but these photos are my first year fruits.

Share some photos of your experience if you’ve ripened this one.

What a bummer. How old is your tree? I think I heard David say that is his best fig or at least one of his best. Maybe it really needs caprification to excel.

Purchased fall of 2024 from @MattK then grew indoors and air layered a couple clones before spring, grow one in ground and one large one in a 5 gallon container that’s about 5 foot tall now that it is going dormant

My Jolly Rancher dropped all it's fruit this year, which I expected and it's ok as it's a first year tree and I would rather concentrate on growth. It's a single stalk tree thats over 8 feet tall. I don't expect fruit for at least 3 years based on what I have read about this variety. My Eve's Black Cherry is doing the same thing.

I have a 2nd year tree in a container. It's a vigorous grower and productive. If you can let it ripen until it's red inside it starts to get that candy flavor. Looks like this variety is improved by caprifcation.

I purchased off @MattK when he helped me auction off figs for a donation to a cancer charity when a friends child was diagnosed last fall. I wanted to buy it but not without a good cause at the price it was going for at the time.
I have a first year tree that should ripen some figs this fall. I remember seeing Pete’s photos last year and I knew it wasn’t going to look like it did when pollinated. Took a gamble as an experiment so I’ll be excited to see how it tastes.
