ISO Worlds Best / Jans Best Mulberries

Anyone have plants of these by chance? I can also try cuttings... Both of mine in pots croaked last year i think due to being potted and late frosts. They just need their roots to stay cooler whereas we have hot and cold back and forth before Springtime

I don't care for Worlds Best Fruits so much but of three seedlings I grew from it, two have started fruiting within the second and third year and the leaves are still small on the third one...Flavor was promising on the first like some of the better berries but slightly more tart. Next year I'll be able to pass some on.. the first to fruit is starting several berries this year... these are much faster to fruit than others from seed... and so I'd like to try for seedlings 🌱 productivity and dwarfing habit...

also im seeking dwarf males in case anyone grew seedlings from these two and got their own variety, male or female actually I would like to swap notes .. and I'd like to send off my girls next year to grow around breeding projects with isolated males but I know there aren't many into it so just reaching / breeding interest

I've got a few extra Pakistan from Rudy Payraise and JH Adriatic plants rooted, maybe a couple other figs to swap or I can reciprocate at a later time also

Not sure if you’re open to other mulberries but I have a 20ft tree in my backyard.

Unknown variety but it’s hardy to Zone 7 winters (down to -1F this year). Ripens early and very plentiful, sweet taste never had a bad year with it. Can send you some cuttings for postage if you’d like :)

Yeah I got it from her originally she's good... it's just not a must have i don't want to purchase again i have too many things going but if i had some id do experiments ...

More so I need to swap extras away rather than to buy more

I forgot btw I have extra Socorro Black and Boirjasotte Gris plants also and looking to swap for others things as well. I am still looking for the regular Peters Honey (not Clustering amber interior ) and Honey Plum and a few others and i thought i was done with figs

I'm reluctant because many northern ones don't have the same frost tolerance here.. my seedlings so far have done much better than the varieties I purchased from north

What happens is one day at 80F wakes up several varieties .. certainly potted ones.. then we'll have a frost a week later and it frost the berries and the wood...

But I'm kind of interested in trialing it sounds good. The berry size would matter to me I haven't found one with an extra large berry yet besides Pakistan.. even aussie green has some issue having to regenerate buds every year and fruiting mess even tho is is partially in ground... Potted but also in ground meh

I guess i could trial to see let me know berry size please and how it's wakeup pattern looks termlersture wise if you have kept notes

Jan's Best and worlds best are borderlines but excellent for next generation berries I think JB is probably related to wb not sure... I think would handle it okay in ground but the wood dies if it makes up and the frosts or freezes

I have a young Jans best I put in the ground last year, it's still kind of small, but left it unprotected over the winter and it has come through with flying colors.
Bud are swelling.
I'm hoping it gains some good size this year.

Is it 20 ft from the water line? If so you should put a fence around it till it’s a hundred years old? 🤣

I had Bryce's Worlds Best previously. It woke up far far too early for me. I left it outside to die. I was given one of Jan's Best at the Fig Frolic last year. It is still in a pot and still small. I'm looking for a spot to plant it. All I can say for sure is that it did not wake up early like WB. That's a good sign.

My second and third Worlds Best seedlings are showing female fruits and several fruits on small thinnish trees, still in small containers.. the one that woke up the fastest might have one single male flower on it... all these had a headstart under plastic near a heater during freezes .. the rest left to survive the weather test .. these passed the first year

also a volunteer i pulled from a pot has a small female fruit in what maybe it's second year or just past. ...Most others can take up to 7 years to fruit so I'm excited but I need to plan out space for Mulberries again... or maybe better if i trial in pots ... the rest have been good.. the potted Pakistan was just budding i saw yesterday has been timed nicely for two winters and needs to be in the ground soon

I was surprised when Jb and Wb croaked last year but i think Jan's tried to hang on a little longer. I thought the base looked okay but didn't grow back ... and the temps were above frost it was 38F i think I remember but enough to zap a few mulberries .. better sooner than later.. JB allegedly did well down to very low temps the kicker is that wake up window.. the key I think is to cross with other better timed local males if only I could find a real dwarf male. I want to grow another round of seedlings from both partly to get a male with the traits

Oscar and Valdosts have been the champs for climate so far and also the Pakistan and most seedlings.. a few others varieties fail at frost and it's all about the wakeup time .. I have dwarf wverbearing with buds that wee small enough to not freeze off and looks good but hopefully Aussie Green isn't a dud all of the buds went to mush again but no wood damage
