Help me brainstorm a name for my llc

Im forming an llc to sell fig cuttings, excess plant starts and excess produce. Its not a real business in that i expect to make a living off it but id like to shield my assets and itd help with some privacy.

Should it have snarf in it? Its been my name online for a long time do im tempted... something like "Snarf's sprouts" could be good. Or "Extra Leaf Starts". Or maybe "Second Harvest" to allude to the leftover nature of things.


Or really any ideas haha

If starting a business, that upside down smile has to go.... the word "snarf" kinda has a negative connotation

    My suggestion would be "Fig Fanatic Farms"....
 
I would say stick to any name that people already associate your products with or you feel like is your online identity. I like Snarf & Sprout from the member ElSquatcho

I don't think you need an llc to sell fig cuttings or plants but I do think it's a great idea if your becoming a bigger distributer or seller. I don't have an llc myself but you made me think of one.

Dont need, but it helps protect my assets if anything ever happens.

I do like Snarf & Sprout but the ampersand does cause some issues in that, for example, it cant be in an email address or a website if i ever want to expand. Does Snarf and Sprouts have the same vibe?

Does Snarf have a negative connotation? I thought it had more of a silly connotation
 
What is the reasoning for an LLC?

My understanding and from the insurance man was I can purchase sellers insurance if I go to farmers market, if from home it’s covered with homeowners insurance. I don’t have much anyone can take and I also don’t think selling plants known to be completely safe could lead to a lawsuit.

I’m curious as well because I’ve discussed with tax, lawyer, and insurance. None have recommended it unless you get to a larger size like 20k in profits or more, and the other trigger is employees.

its more about liability/ asset protection. Its to protect my house/savings if someone "gets sick" from something i sell, or if a cutting has some sort of disease i didnt know about. A delivery causes property damage. Someone trips over my table at a farmers market. Though insurance covers basically all of that
It seperates my money for taxes, which just makes taxes a little easier. I also need nursery registration to sell plants and I dont want my personal name and info on that form. Its also for privacy in that way, it lets me use a p.o. box for some things etc. I'll use my work office as registered agent.

I would say its 75% privacy 25% asset protection. It also varies state to state what LLC gives you. like in ny you dont need to list the members

Ok I get that. The only downside was LLC required a separate tax id and everything in that situation. My info is out there but at the same time it’s out there if I sell to Facebook as well. I think sometimes fear has grown way out of proportion because of some crazy lawsuits that have happened. The tax lady stated it would be a big deal for a backyard grower unless I’m making a ton of money to justify the effort.

Those items you’ve listed would be covered by insurance, if selling at a farmers market you need a different level of insurance though. You can sell under a different name and get a P.O. Box in a fictitious name as well. I think there is super easy ways to do things with privacy. My states nursery license is required to have an address of growing location on it so if you don’t have any land besides your back yard you can’t get a license without your houses address.
 
I think in the end the llc became a rabbit hole I didn’t want to mess with unless I got into some serious business. I’m not sure how much you plan to sell but that was my experience looking at it.

Also look into getting an umbrella policy from your insurance provider if you haven't already as it gives you an extra layer of protection above your existing insurance. A great book to learn more about starting a nursery is below.

I think the record keeping and quarterly state and fed tax filings would make me think again about having an LLC.
